HVAC General Info

The HVAC, or Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning Assembly, is the unit located under a car’s dashboard that is responsible for controlling the flow of air into the cabin. The HVAC is composed of multiple injection molded polypropylene cases that are fastened together. An array of dampers and motors inside the unit allow incoming or recirculated air to be directed in many ways. It serves to provide hot air to the windshield for defrosting as well as the cabin area for heating. The HVAC unit can also provide cooling to these same locations.

The Intake Manifold is part of the air delivery system. It represents Keihin’s continued use of plastic in intake manifold design. The intake manifold is made from a glass reinforced nylon resin that is well suited for the higher temperatures that are encountered with an engine. The nylon components are injection molded and vibration welded in order to create complicated geometries that would not be possible in conventional metal designs. The manifold assembly takes air in from the air duct system of the car, monitors incoming air pressure, and accommodates several modern engine features.

 

The most notable feature on some of Keihin's intake manifolds is that they have two possible flow paths for air. The flow paths are controlled by a dual stage bypass valve that opens and shortens the airflow path during high engine rpm.

Injector Base General Info

The Injector Base Assembly is part of the air and fuel delivery system. It mounts directly between the cylinder head of the engine and the intake manifold. The injector base consists of a cast aluminum housing possessing four independent air paths for the delivery of air from the intake manifold. Close to the cylinder head is where the injectors and fuel pipe are located. This subassembly delivers fuel spray to the air passages of the injector base.
